Poetry: ENVY by Kofi Nyamekyɛ

The soar of a bird
In air above the snail,
makes the snail ache for wings

The earthly smell and shell of a snail that
shelters its innards,
lures the bird to seek a shell

Of what use
is a shell to a bird?
Of what use are wings
to a snail?

The snail may have wings
but it won’t flutter
The bird may have a shell but it won’t shelter

Envy is a toothless aged woman without teeth to bite
But tits to be suckled for no pleasure
