KLALA

Daniel Neequaye Kotey is known by stage name Klala. The name in Ga-language literary means “White cloth”. Klala is a singer, songwriter, composer, music producer, television host (GBC-OBONU TV), philanthropist, and the founder of Klala Traditional Musical Group. He is the leader of the trio and the founder of Klala Traditional Music Group. He is noted for his outstanding performance, he is always found in the outfit of the Chief Priest of the Ga Traditional council whenever he mounts a performance on stage. Klala is also a Traditional Health Practitioner with the Title T/Dr. Daniel Neequaye Kotey, the CEO of Natural Teeth Care. He is also the ambassador for Accra Great Great Olympics football club.

EARLY LIFE AND EDUCATION

Daniel Neequaye Kotey also popularly known as Klala, was born and bred in Teshie the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. He was born in the ’80s to Emelia Timmerman(Germany) and Desmond Kotey (Italy). He remains the firstborn of four siblings. Klala had his basic and primary education in three different schools Teshie Presbyterian School in Teshie, Datus Complex School in Tema, and finally completed at Osu Salem Road Junior Secondary School where he had his Basic Education Certificate Examination. Klala being a clever and brilliant student gained admission to Royal Technical College Kpeshie, Accra-Nungua, where he perused draughtsmanship for four years and was awarded a first-class diploma. He later continued to Goethe Institute to learn Dutch in East Cantonment- Accra

MUSIC CAREER

Klala spends most of his free time composing melodious songs when he was very young as far back as basic school. His peers can never undermine him when it comes to playing football. In his basic school, he was very iconic to his peers; a regular player for the school team, and also represented his school during musical competitions and funfairs all in basic school. In 2005 he formed Klala Traditional Musical Group with the intent to help promote Tradition and African Culture through music. The trio in the group all took part in the second edition of the Nescafe African Revelation (NAR) competition in Ghana. Among a group of fourteen, the trio made it to the grand finale of the competition at the forecourt of the Accra Sports Stadium 2008. Klala Traditional Musical Group released their first-ever album titled “Nye He Ye Feo” which literary means (Ghanaian girls are beautiful). Which had exquisite airplay on both Radio and TV stations across the length and breadth of Ghana. Klala became a household name because their song was Ghana’s hit song of all time and had the opportunity to mount the big stages in the country with their traditional lifestyle of dressing like a chief priest.

Hard work they say, does not break bones but really pays- (African proverb). Due to the hard work, the late King Tackie Tawiah III the head of the Ga land under the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture declared his firm support to the aspiration of the Klala Traditional musical group in the Ga communities and make Klala an icon and ambassador to help promote peace and tradition in the country. In that same year, Klala was adopted by Television Africa, base on their hard work to be the fastest dominating musical group in the Ghanaian music scene and also being able to revive culture and tradition through music.
Klala is an outstanding Ga musician with many awards and also the only musician that has a street named after him. He believes in giving back to society by taking care of and supporting widows and orphans in the community.
Klala is currently with Ghana Broadcasting Cooperation (GBC-OBONU TV) hosting a live entertainment segment on the breakfast show.
